Clogged Toilets

Facing a toilet clog? First, refrain from flushing again, as it may cause overflow.

Equip yourself with rubber gloves and a plunger. Gently plunge the bowl, creating a seal, and then push and pull vigorously. If you're successful in clearing the clog, the water and debris will drain from the toilet.

Sink & Shower Clogs

Facing a clogged sink or shower drain? Begin by removing any visible debris or hair near the surface. Next, try a plunger, creating a tight seal and plunging vigorously to dislodge the obstruction. If that doesn't work, a mixture of baking soda and vinegar can be poured down the drain, followed by hot water after 15 minutes.

Avoid chemical cleaners, as they can harm pipes and the environment.

Electrical Outages

Experiencing a power outage can be unsettling, but staying calm and taking specific steps can help. First, check if your neighbors are also affected to determine if it's a widespread issue. Safely locate a flashlight and spare batteries to navigate in the dark. Unplug electronic devices to prevent damage from power surges when the electricity is restored.

If the outage persists, report it to your utility company and follow any updates they provide.

No Hot Water

If you lose hot water in your rental home, first check whether the pilot light on the water heater is lit. If it's out, relight it following the appliance's instructions.

Next, check the thermostat settings and adjust if needed. Some hot water heaters have a vacation mode or energy saving mode, both of which could limit the amount of water available at any given time.

If you make any changes to the settings, wait 15 to 20 minutes before testing the water temperature again.

HVAC Problems

If your heat or air conditioning isn't working properly, use the central thermostat in your home to troubleshoot the issue.

Begin by checking the thermostat settings, ensuring they are appropriate. Does the system seem to be working properly? You may be able to cycle the system off and back on again to restore the system defaults.

You should also inspect air filters, as dirty ones can impede airflow; replace or clean as needed.
